NEW BLOG SITE - NEW PROOFING SITE!

I must be crazy for tackling this project during wedding season...but, the new blog site is up and running. I love it, and hope you do, too. The new site is more representative of my style of photography and a better showcase for the previews and features that I post to the blog. Check out the new blog site.

And while I am making announcements, the proofing site and system is changing for weddings and portraits. Eventually sports and events will move to the new site...but one project at a time. Through customer feedback, I took all your frustrations and suggestions in mind when making this decision. The new site features a faster way to sort through and view the proofs, allows you to look at more detail of your proofs, and is way less complicated than the old site. It is a work in process at the moment, with many enhancements and features to be added. It is still wedding season after all. I hope to have all the kinks worked out by the new year. In the meantime, all proofs are still at the old site. Any links I sent you for your proofs, still works and all your proofs are still there. Currently I have only the last wedding (Amber and Nelson) posted on the new site. All future portrait proofs and weddings will post to the new proof site. All the links to proofs on the websites and blog point you to the new home for proofs. There is a link on the new blog for proofs that posted prior to today on the old site. That is listed in the "links" button at the top of the blog.

As always if you have trouble finding your proofs or blog post, just give me a call or send me an email. I appreciate all the help, feedback, suggestions, and your patience through this process. I like to stay current with technology, but make it an enjoyable / easy process for you. - Cheryl

Amber and Nelson

I photographed Amber and Nelson's wedding last weekend. They are such an awesome couple. I couldn't wait to edit their images. But as I was going through them, it was almost impossible to narrow down my favorites for this blog post. So...in the end I couldn't narrow down to a reasonable number for the blog and decided to design a gorgeous 14x11 album to print for the studio. Amber and Nelson have been off in Jamaica enjoying their honeymoon, and I have been dying to post these. Here were my favorite images from their fabulous wedding day:

Bright and early this morning, I met Joe Paul to photograph his senior portrait session. I cannot believe he is graduating high school. I remember photographing his football games when he was in Junior High School. I cannot say enough good things about Joe Paul. He's just a great guy...even though he's an Ole Miss fan. Cari & Drew e-session

Between my flight from Dallas and drive to Eureka Springs, I met Cari and Drew in Little Rock to shoot their e-session. After reschedules due to rain (imagine that!), we had beautiful weather. With a mix of the walking trail by their apartment, the River Market and the Big Damn Bridge, we found some great locations. Even though, at one point I thought we might have a little trouble with the LR police (turns out she just wanted to suggest another great location), and at another, I thought we might be sleeping in the courtyard of the Library. LOL It was definitely a fun break for me after a day in airports. They get married next year, and I'm already looking forward to their wedding. Here are my faves:

Kendra & Ryan e-session

Kendra and Ryan drove to Eureka Springs this weekend for their e-session. We used some of Eureka's best locations: parks, grotto, the Crescent Hotel, and a cool abandoned / haunted rail station. Becca and Travis got married!

Last Friday I photographed the beautiful wedding of Becca and Travis Lauer. They were married at Saint Bonaface Catholic Church in Bigelow. They could not have picked a more beautiful chapel. Mother Nature gave them a beautiful fall day, even though it was a bit cold. They were both so excited throughout the early afternoon. It was a lot of fun to watch the excitement and anticipation build. Here are my favorite images from the day:

Studio Closed October 24 - November 2

In between a packed spring / summer wedding season and a packed fall / winter wedding season, I have a little break scheduled. I am off to Dallas to study with the International Wedding Photographer of the Year for a couple of days. And, I am so excited about that. Then I get a little spa retreat. I will process any orders received this week when I return on November 3rd. Any sessions that have not been posted before I leave, will also be posted when I return. If you have not received an order you placed prior to this week, it means fed-ex just has not delivered it yet - so I will get with you as soon as I return. I drove over to Memphis this past weekend to photograph Hanna and Cory's engagement portraits. Just before we hung out and had lunch at Quetzel's, one of my favorite haunts in Memphis. Yummiest coffee in Memphis! We took advantage of Artist Alley just down from the deli, and then headed over to Beale Street and the Waterfront. I love the grunge of the alley and the metro feel to the downtown shots. Here are my favorites:

Jordan - NHS Senior of 2010

I love that seniors these days want to use different backgrounds and locations to make their senior portraits unique. Jordan and her dad scouted out some great locations. But, we ran out of sunlight before we ran out of locations. So, there will be a part 2 to her senior portraits in a few weeks. Isaac is 3 months old!

Hard to believe it's been three months since I photographed Isaac's newborn session. He is growing like crazy, but so, so adorable. He was such a little trooper for his session - and smiled through the whole two hours. Even when we dressed him up in hats and a giraffe costume. Just adorable! Very difficult to pick my favorites, but here goes:

This past Saturday I drove up to Melbourne to meet Casey and Brad to photograph their e-session. I just love the Ozarks in the fall, it was a gorgeous drive. Lovers of the outdoors, Casey and Brad picked a couple of their favorite spots to use for their portraits. We photographed around Melbourne and Guion, and I saw some parts of Arkansas I had never seen before. I had a lot of fun getting to know them. Sarah and Brad got married!

Last Saturday, Brad and Sarah got married at her parent's beautiful home. I have been looking forward to their wedding since I met them. They are such an awesome couple. Fun to be around, and so much in love. The wedding day could not have been more perfect. I enjoyed seeing all their family and friends come together to celebrate their wedding. It was a day filled with love, family, friends, smiles and fun. We really enjoyed being with them on their wedding day. Here are my favorites:

We photographed a formal bridal session for Sarah last month, so we tried to do some fun things for her on wedding day. Couldn't resist the boots with the barn in the background. If I had to say there was a theme to everything you just saw and their wedding - I would say it was happiness. Brad and Sarah were so excited, and you could tell everyone just enjoyed the day so much.

Ashley & Michael Got Married!

This was the wedding that almost didn't happen. Secret is that Michael lost her telephone number after they met, and had to get it from her mother. Good thing he had a connection. LOL I cannot say enough how much I LOVE this couple. I met Ashley and Michael at the beginning of the year when they were trying to put their wedding plans back together, and was just touched by their story. We had an incredible engagement session in Memphis back in early summer and just last month shot Ashley's Bridal session in Collierville. I have been looking forward to their wedding day all year. Ashley and Michael got married on September 26th at the Union Avenue Baptist Church in Memphis. After I edited their images, I picked my favorites. I had to scale down this post from 250 favorites. LOL This is truly a story about love conquers all. Great wedding day with an awesome couple, and here are my very favorite images:

Ashley's Bridal Fashion Shoot

This has been one of the hardest secrets to keep. We shot Ashley's bridal fashion session in Collierville, TN last month. I was so blown away by how elegant and gorgeous she looked in this dress. She officially became my queen of fans on the street and drive-by honkers. LOL She and her mom picked a fabulous location and we were absolutely blessed by a beautiful afternoon. As I was editing her session, it was almost impossible to narrow down my favorites. Ashley and Michael got married last evening, and I cannot wait to finish editing their wedding portraits. Their wedding day was amazing! So...in the meantime I can share her bridal session. All I can say is HOT! What a gorgeous bride!

Former Greyhound, Thamail Morgan, featured on Varsity.rivals.com

I got a call last evening from Connie Boyster to let me know that Thamail was being featured, not only on the Arkansasvarsity.rivals.com, but also on the yahoo.com homepage. This morning I got permission from Luke Matheson, the author of the article, to reprint his feature story. It's no secret that I think the world of Thamail, I think he is an exceptional young man. Thamail Morgan took the kickoff and headed up the field.
He was at the 20 ... 30 ... 40

He had been avoiding, dodging or just simply running through tacklers on the way. Football always had come easily for Morgan. This game was no different. By the time he hit midfield, only open space was ahead of him. The two-time Arkansas all-state selection was headed for a touchdown.

40 ... 30 ... 20

He glanced at the clock and saw the final seconds ticking away. He realized his team, Cave City, was on the way to a victory over Yellville-Summit, comfortably ahead, 34-16. He also realized two other things: This wasn't an ordinary game. And he wasn't the same Thamail Morgan.

When he reached the 2, he stopped. He took a few steps back and took a knee at the 5-yard line.

Yelleville-Summit is a co-op program, a combination of two small rural schools in the northern part of Arkansas, near the Missouri border. Combining the schools allows them to field a football team. But even then, the squad is so small that coach Calvin Mallett has to bring extra uniforms in case a lineman gets hurt and someone needs to fill in.

On Sept. 11, before a game with Salem, the schools came together for a pep rally. Afterward, a four of the players piled into the bed of Kymball Duffy's truck to head to his house for a pre-game meal.

According to Marion County Sheriff Roger Vickers, this is what happened next.

As Duffy came over a hill, he quickly came upon a brush pile in the road. Duffy swerved into the other side of the road, attempting to avoid it. He lost control of the truck, sending it into a tumble.

The four players in the back ? whose names are not being released - were thrown from the vehicle. Miraculously, three of the players in the back suffered only minor injuries. A fourth remains in the hospital but appears to be headed for recovery. Duffy was killed at the scene.

The game with Salem was cancelled.

The town held memorial services for Duffy, then decided they needed to continue the season as part of the healing process.

Before taking on Cave City, the most seriously injured of the four players in the back of the truck, spoke to the team from his hospital bed.

Players from Yellville-Summit and Cave City met at midfield before the game for a moment of remembrance. Players on both teams wore a No. 72 decal - Duffy's number - on their helmet.

The game began and Cave City quickly scored. Minutes later, it scored again. And again. All hope for a storybook ending appeared lost.

Thamail Morgan is type of player who can dominate a high school game. On every play.

Last year, playing for Newport in a state playoff game against Heber Springs, he had 15 tackles, a sack and two forced fumbles on defense. He had 145 yards receiving and two touchdowns on offense.

He was coveted by most Division I programs in the South. Then it all changed.

In January, he violated an unspecified school rule that banned him from athletics for a year. Morgan would be eligible for basketball during his senior season but not football.

A year away from football would hurt his chances of gaining a scholarship, so - after considering a number of options - he transferred roughly 40 miles away to Cave City. His scholarship offers did not travel with him.

"Before I screwed up and got myself into trouble, I had some schools like Arkansas, Florida State, Ole Miss, and some other big schools looking at me,'' he said. "Now they are not looking at me, but I have no one to blame but myself for that. Hopefully I can get on someone's radar, even if it is a lower level D-1 or D-2 school."

Cave City coach Jon Bradley was willing to take a chance on Morgan. But only if he met certain conditions. He not only is required to attend extra weight lifting and conditioning exercises, he is required to participate in after-school activities with a local church and meet with a pastor on a regular basis for counseling.

"Everyone makes mistakes," Bradley said. "Thamail made some mistakes that did not allow him to play football anymore at Newport, and we knew what those mistakes were when he came here. I sat him down and talked to him, and let him know I was willing to give him a chance, but there were certain things that he would have to do in order to play for our program.

"So far, he has accomplished, and continues to do everything he has been asked to do, and then some. He has transitioned well and the kids here have accepted him. He is doing well in class, and is a leader on the football field and is a great athlete. We feel fortunate to have him."

Bradley said he didn't get word the game with Yellville-Summit was going to be played until Tuesday. He then wondered all week how it would play out.

"I did not know what to expect due to the tragedy,'' he said. "You go into the game wanting to win, but then, you feel bad doing it. When we went up 21-0 in the first quarter, I just can't explain how I felt. The atmosphere was so weird. I just can't explain it."

His players sensed it too.

"They told me on the sidelines that Yellville-Summit was not into it and they did not want to pad stats or run up the score,'' he said. "At that time, I started substituting our kids in and out of the game."

At this point, what the game represented became clear to Bradley.

"Everyone was glad that they were out there playing, getting some sort of return to normalcy,'' he said. "But everyone was going to be glad when it was over."

Yellville-Summit eventually scored in the second quarter, after Cave City had replaced many of its regulars. Bradley did not have a problem with that.

"I talked with Coach Mallet earlier in the week and before the game," Bradley said. "He let me know that if the game was to get out of hand, he simply did not have the players to substitute due to his numbers. So, I knew that when I pulled our guys, that there was a chance they would score."

It was 28-8 at halftime. Then 34-8 at the end of three quarters. Yelleville-Summit scored a second time with little time left to make it 34-16.

They had to kick off, sending a line drive that bounced its way to the back. To Morgan.

"We didn't even think they would kick off," Bradley said. "And we had him (Morgan) all the way back. It was our top return team, but we only have one return team.

What Morgan did next surprised Bradley.

"I did not tell him to kneel down, he did it on his own," Bradley said. "I did not expect them to kick it to him. I figured they would kick away, because he has the ability to break away. I did not know that he was going to do what he did. He broke tackles, ran sideline to sideline, and got to the 2, and just stopped. That is when he backed up and took a knee on the 5-yard line."

Morgan did not do this completely on his own.

"We were on the sidelines yelling for him not to score," Bradley said. "Some of the players on the field were saying it, too. But I'm not sure how much he could have heard all of it."

He heard it, Morgan admitted. But he didn't need to.

"Before the game, we as a team talked about being classy,'' he said. "We did not want to come out in a game like this and not show any class.

"As I was running, some of my teammates told me not to score, and I knew that scoring was not the right thing to do."

He was glad to be a part of what happened.

"I just want to thank my teammates for not only being classy all night, but pushing me to be classy as well,'' he said.

The gesture was well received.

"We weren't sure how gloomy they would be before the game,'' Morgan said. "They had gloom, but it was not as bad as we thought. We met before the game, and they told us that they did not want us to feel sorry for them, and they did not want us to back off just because of what happened. They wanted us to play them like we would have if Duffy has still been there with them, so we did.

"After the game, they complemented us, and even thanked us for the way that we played them. They are some really cool cats, and I wish them the best of luck with their healing process and the rest of their season. I hope they make the playoffs."

What becomes of the rest of Morgan's football career remains to be seen.

He is getting interest from Arkansas State and Central Arkansas. Bigger schools such as Southern Miss and Texas Tech are starting to re-enter the picture.

At 6-1, 195 with a 4.5 time in the 40, there's no doubt he can play. It's the other issues that are a concern. Bradley is doing his best to make those go away.

"I send things out to places and I tell schools, he's had some off the field issues, but if you're interested, please call me because it's not near as bad as what it sounds,'' Bradley said. "They assume his grades are bad or that he's done something really, really bad. Everyone deserves a second chance. He's doing the right thing."

Bradley said he and Morgan have had many talks, but none of them have been about behavior.

"He's not a discipline problem at all,'' Bradley said. "His grades are getting better. He'll have an opportunity to play. He's too good of an athlete and too good of a young man right now."

Bradley admitted he had concerns at the beginning but they have proven to be unfounded.

"I've never seen anything negative out of the kid,'' he said. "He's the most polite kid. He works hard. He knows he has one shot to get his education.

"He's showing people he's doing the right thing."

That was never more evident as when he took a knee.

After being rained out a couple of weeks ago, we finally got a weather break to shoot Amber & Nelson's e-session in the River Market. Very close to the area where Nelson proposed, we spent an hour exploring the area and getting to know each other. They wanted an engagement session of the two of them just spending time with each other that would show their personalities and love, without being all "mushy". LOL I think we accomplished that. Mike and Jana were married last Friday in a beautiful and intimate wedding at her parent's home in Blytheville. I cannot say enough how much I enjoyed this day. They are all such fun and sweet people. And, Mr. and Mrs. Pate's home was just a gorgeous setting for their garden wedding. We made some last minute schedule changes when sprinkles of rain fell that afternoon and the thunder began to roll. But there were only a few sprinkles, and the wedding went off without a hitch! It was extremely hard to narrow down my favorites because we had such fabulous locations to shoot the bridal portraits and couple photography. Not to mention they are just a gorgeous couple. It was an emotional, romantic day, and I think that really came through in their photography. So, here are my favorites:

We met in downtown Colliersville last weekend on a gorgeous afternoon, and the location could not have been more perfect! Can't post a preview because Michael is not allowed to see... I met Carson's Mom and Dad last year at a wedding, and then met Carson when he was four months old. It was amazing to see how much he has grown. He's a pretty handsome little guy. I photographed him Sunday on the occasion of his first birthday. Here are my favorites:

Lizeth and James

Last weekend I photographed James and Lizeth's wedding at The Station on Church Street in Jonesboro. My first time at that venue, but now I hope I have many more. The place is just fabulous and has unlimited photography backdrops. I met James and Lizeth about a month ago to photograph their e-session, so I have been looking forward to their multi-cultural wedding. Lizeth's family heritage was brought into the bilingual ceremony, as well as some American wedding culture for James. It was very touching. All I can say is this is one HOT couple! I had a very difficult time selecting just a few images for this post, but here goes with my faves:

One of my favorite things about the Station were the dressing areas for the Bride and Groom. Made for great portraits.

Lizeth was just stunning in her wedding dress.

The Station once housed the original Post Office and we found this original old bank vault in the bathroom. What a great look for some sexy portraits of the bride.

James patiently waiting for the ceremony to begin. I was very struck by how emotional he was throughout the day. It is obvious he adores her, it was great to capture that for both of them.

I happened to mention to Kade how cute I thought he was all dressed up, to which he quickly told me he wasn't cute, he was tough. LOL

My favorite part of the beautiful ceremony was the sharing of Lizeth's Mexican heritage. Family members presented the couple with a series of symbolic gifts. The couple kneel on the cojines to have the lasso placed on their necks. The lasso,(El lazo) is a beautiful rosary, to symbolize unity after exchanging vows. The coins (Trece monedas de oro) are given so the couple will never want for material needs. The groom gives the bride the coins as a symbol of his unquestionable trust and confidence. The bride accepts the coins as a symbol of her trust and confidence in her husband providing for her. Hopefully my translation and understanding of those customs is acccurate.

Another part of the culture was for Lizeth and James not to see each other before the ceremony. We did their couple photography immediately following the ceremony. All I can say is that it was a very emotional and intimate session.

The reception was held downstairs where every little detail was perfect. The tables were decorated by the groom's mother and other family. Most things were hand made. The napkin holders, the little nut boxes with the blue ribbon. Everything on the table was furnished by the grooms mother. The centerpieces were furnished by Lizeth and her family and they also helped decorate. The glasses were a souvenier for each guest. Lizeth and her mom and her sisters and the groom's mother spent many hours making by hand all the things on these tables. It was beautiful.

Another fun part of this day was it was the first day officially for my new photography assistant, Martin. (He is going to kill me for this photo). You can see he has the glamorous job toting around all the heavy equipment all day. Love ya Martin!

James and Lizeth, thank you so much for including me at your wedding. I was very touched by the sentiments and the emotions of your entire wedding day. I felt honored to be a part of the sharing of your two cultures. I wish you much love and happiness! - Cheryl

Welcome to the World, Baby Isaac

Almost a year ago I met Jason and Jill under probably the worst of circumstances, the death of their precious baby girl, Lillian Grace. Through Now I Lay Me Down To Sleep, Jill had contacted me to photograph the moments as they said hello and goodbye to her.

We have kept in touch and today I was so thrilled to be able to photograph Isaac, who "burst into the world", as Jason put it, this morning. The portraits just speak for themselves, but he is just gorgeous. I could have taken him home with me, but for some reason Dad objected to that.

Jill & Jason, I am so happy for you. He is just perfect! I know Lillian Grace is smiling down on him. Love you guys - Cheryl

Two weeks ago I photographed Justin and Sarah's wedding in Lexa. They are so incredibly cute together. Sarah's Mom told me that Sarah's dream was for the wedding to be just a big day for all her family and friends. I can honestly say that I think she did that. It was so hard for me to narrow down my favorites to do this post. But after choosing and re-choosing, here are my faves:

Sarah arrived all smiles and excited!

Justin and the guys passed the morning with a little football. Justin had the best analogy for how he felt on his wedding day, from a guy's point of view. All you grooms will get this! He said it was like Friday Night Football and all the excitement and adrenaline he felt before the big football games on Friday Nights. Awww.

Look at that mischevious look. Mom apparently knew nothing about the red shoes until this moment! LOL

Sarah grew up in this house where her parents still live across the street from the church.

Sarah and Justin had their "first meeting" on the wedding day underneath the tree they played under when they were little. How sweet!

We scheduled time to go around town to some great locations for their couple photography, which was lots of fun. We even played on the train, but don't tell anybody!

This guy should seriously be on American Idol!

And, apparently Sarah has cooties! LOL How cute is he?

We had to work in a football wedding party shot. Too funny!

Before the reception we had a chance to sneak away and photograph in downtown Helena. I could have stayed there for hours. We got some great backgrounds here.

I love how they look at each other. They ooze "in love"!

I love the original, creative ideas couple have for their wedding details. I thought this was a cool way to bring their family and friends into their marriage.

One of my favorite times of every reception is the father-daughter dance. Sarah and her dad had the whole range of emotions. It was so sweet!

Fun reception. Everyone there seemed to have a great time. It's just not a party until the groom does the worm in the soul train line! LOL

That's 59 years of marriage! Instead of a bouquet toss they had a dance off with couples being sent off the floor as the number of years married climbed. Austin's grandparents were the last dancing couple with 59 years!

And she brought down the house with what was the best reception speech I have heard in a long time. I see entertainment in her future!

Lacey and Anthony

Last weekend I had the honor of photographing Lacey and Anthony's wedding. It seems like we met to plan her photography forever ago. The wedding was in Melbourne at her grandparent's beautiful home. Thanks Ms. Betty - between us, the wedding party, family and friends, we literally took over her poor house. She also kept us all in ice cold water on what was officially the hottest day of the year. The wedding was beautiful and the day was so much fun for us. I could have literally posted 100's of images here because it was really hard to narrow down to my favorites. But after much sorting, here they are. The bouquet above was simply gorgeous and her grandmother's cameo was the perfect touch.

Before the wedding we drove to Knobcreek Church, which is off the beaten path, but well worth the drive. It was the perfect setting for her bridals and their first meeting.

Vacation and Studio Closure July 3 - 12

It's that time of year again. Vacation! We have been working so hard. Wedding season began early this year and the shooting schedule has just been crazy since the beginning of March. I am always ready for a little re-charge about this time of the summer. And, definitely ready for some quality, fun family time. I know we are all looking forward to the sight, sound, and smell of the ocean. Not to mention crab legs, shopping, sleeping late.....

With all that said, the studio will be closed July 3 - 12. No orders will be processed during that time, and you will probably get my voice mail if you call. Any orders taken this week will be processed after the 12th. My lab is so amazing and has such a rapid turn-around, I would have packages stacked up at the front door before I got home if I sent them off this week. I trust fed-ex to deliver, but do not trust the neighbor's dogs.... So I'd just rather not worry about your portrait or album orders while I am away. I will be in contact with everyone after the 12th as your orders come in.

For my July brides who may be worrying about some last minute detail, by all means call me this week. If we need to get together before I leave, we can do that. Otherwise I will talk to all of you as soon as I return. My July and August weddings are going to be awesome, by the way!
